Don't dismiss rainy days if you live in an amazing city!
Rainy days are actually a great “natural studio” for photography, and the lack of harsh shadows is one of the biggest reasons.
On a bright sunny day, light comes from a single strong direction (the sun), which creates high contrast: bright highlights and deep, sharp shadows. That can look dramatic, but it also makes it harder to control exposure and can hide detail in faces, textures, and darker areas of a scene.
Rainy or overcast weather changes the entire lighting system. Rainy days are excellent for photography because the sky turns into a giant natural softbox. Instead of harsh, directional sunlight, light is diffused evenly through clouds and moisture in the air.
This photo will not look very interesting for those who are attracted to heavy, oversaturated colors, and/or sunny, blue sky days! For me, though, this was a perfect day to create my Halloween interpretation of the Daniels Building in Toronto! I think older buildings make perfect subjects for Halloween composites.
My Halloween interpretation for this building.
Hope you liked it!
Here's an imagined later-afternoon version of the Daniels Building, too.  As you can see, one "uninteresting" photo can be turned into a beautiful photo in a few clicks in Photoshop, and without using AI.
